Attractions in and around Helmsley

This Helmsley B&B  is a perfect base for walking; The Cleveland way rises out of the town making it easy to walk part or all of it from Orchard Cottage. The North York Moors National Park is sitting behind the town and Duncombe Park and House , The Walled Garden and Helmsley Castle are close by. There are interesting quirky shops, bookshops, delicatessens and galleries in the town and a superb Countrywear shop which is a magnet for the shooters during the shooting season. Helmsley Arts Centre with exhibitions, theatre, live music and current films is a 2 minute walk away.

Perhaps visiting some of the most glorious and ancient Abbeys in the U.K is your interest?
The Abbeys of Rievaux (a richly rewarding walk from Helmsley), Bylands and Fountains are all within easy reach. York Minster and many other historical attractions of the city from the Romans and Vikings are to be found within York city walls. The mediaeval streets, art galleries and museums lie 20 miles away from Helmsley. The sophisticated spa town of Harrogate with Betty’s Tea Rooms , the Pump Room and the rather  beautiful  R.H.S Garden Harlow Carr is a comfortable ride.

Much filmed stately home Castle Howard with its ‘award winning gardens;
Sledmere House ; Harewood House ; the  Yorkshire Sculpture Park and newly opened gallery, ‘ The Hepworth ’  is an easy drive from Helmsley. The North Yorkshire Heritage coastline reached over the North York Moors and down to Whitby, Robin's Hood Bay and Scarborough makes an interesting full day's trip.

There is a huge variety of stimulus or peace in this heavenly landscape: make of it what you will and be welcome.
